Dan's Fund for Burns :: About us :: Aims & Mission

Mission Aim

The prime aim of Danís Fund for Burns is to be a ready source of assistance by providing swift and practical support for UK-wide Burn Survivors in need.

How can we help?

In various ways including but not restricted to:

  • Help and guidance - where to find the right practical support;
  • Financial assistance to cover emergencies such as accommodation and transportation costs to and from Hospital for families, emergency supplies whilst in Hospital, including items and clothing lost in fires, and other accidents causing burn injuries;
  • Transportation costs to and from Outpatient clinics;
  • Interim emergency funding while waiting Benefits or Insurance claims and more;
  • iPads for both therapy and relief of boredom if hospitalised for extended periods;
  • Physiotherapy, massage, rehabilitation gym/physio equipment, other essential equipment;
  • Job retraining, providing specialist equipment such as specially adapted computers, etc;
  • Work with existing Hospital Burns Support Groups for survivors and their families, including counselling as well as assisting in the establishment of new Burns Support Group and Befriending opportunities for UK-wide Burn Survivors – further study to expand these services where possible;
  • Funding Young Adult (18 to 25 year old burn survivors) weekends, with accompanying staff, where they meet other similar burn survivors and find support and comfort as well as share experiences with others who actually know what they have been through;
  • Helping Burns Units purchase vital equipment for the treatment of burn survivors that the NHS is unable to provide, eg computerized beds (a necessity for those with burnt backs!), mobile bath/shower units, specialist surgical instruments, etc;
  • Contributions to Research Programmes intended to improve the care of burns;
  • Funding burns staff, doctors, nurses and others, to attend international meetings and other burn-related activities where other funding is not available;
  • Funding camouflage makeup training to all UK-burns units in order to provide this service to all burn survivors when requested.

All grants will be based on the agreement of the Trustees after due consideration of the applications received. You can find more information and about how to contact us in the How can we help you? section of this site.
