Wishing our burn survivors and supporters a very happy new year! Do you have any new year’s resolutions? One of Polly’s (Dan’s Fund founder and CEO) is to look after her own burn scars and body more this year. She has started a course of 6 LPG massage treatment sessions at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital every Wednesday throughout January & February 2024. She hopes this massage treatment with the LPG machine will relax her tight bands of scarring and reduce pain. It will also give her the opportunity to assess the machines and understand their worth, with a view to donating some to the major burn centres across the UK. We’re hoping for great results and will update you in due course!
On 19 March 2023, members of the Nottingham Burns Unit social running club called the ‘Plod Squad’ took part in both the Sherwood Pines half marathon and 10k run choosing to raise funds for Dan’s Fund For Burns (DFFB). The group looked fantastic in their DFFB t-shirts and raised an amazing £2,235 for us! Thank you so much for your incredible efforts. Congratulations and well done!
Dan’s Fund would like to join together with the rest of the world in expressing our sorrow on hearing about the Queen’s passing yesterday. It felt like she would live on forever but today we mourn the loss of the greatest of leaders, a truly astonishing monarch. She lifted the spirits of the country and united us time and time again all through her relentless service to us all. We have known no different and she will be sorely missed.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 21st April 1926-8th September 2022.
May she Rest in Peace.
A mix of rain and sunshine greeted our loyal golfing supporters at our Windlesham Golf Club Charity day on Friday 20th May. Better than driving wind and rain last year and scores were high as a result. Congratulations to The Dream Team, The Worplesdon Wallies and The Driving Divas for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectfully. The Woking Belles won the yellow ball competition with only 4/12 yellow balls returning home!! Lots of ditches and water at Windlesham 🙂
Its been a busy few days and I always love it when we can make those bank payments! This week, we’ve paid for 9 burn professionals to attend the BASC skin camouflage training course in May, funded the 3rd tranche of a tattoo to cover a young chaps burn scars, paid for some bespoke pressure garments for a young burn and a new bed for another! In addition, we’ve agreed to donate an ipad and netflix subscription to another patient about to leave hospital shortly too. Helping where we can to make burn survivors lives just a little bit better where we can.
The Bali Legends Smashed it at the Dubai 7s
The dnata Bali Legends were delighted to play in the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby 7s this past weekend. Entered in the International Vets, they played hard to get through to the Quarters and then the Semis. Unfortunately, an unlucky bounce saw us lose the Semi Finals.
Our thanks go to our Sponsors, dnata, Herbert Smith Freehills, Silber Arrows, IT Document Solutions, Premier Inn, Binns Fencing, CBRE & Cignpost Diagnostics and to the boys who put their bodies on the line and made it to Dubai to support the team and Dan’s Fund.
This week we are excited to have launched our new look 2021 Newsletter. This can be found under our News section of the website and can be viewed as a flipbook on a laptop or as a downloadable link from the click down box.
Our thanks go to Tom Cornfoot from A Studio of Our Own for helping us to modernise the newsletter in line with our new look website :).
We hope you enjoying reading all the features and catching up on our news!
It was such an exciting day as our CEO and Founder, Polly Brooks, MBE, received her medal from Princess Anne at Windsor Castle.
On a sunny but blustery day, Polly and her mother were lucky enough to be invited to the castle to receive the honour finally, having waited over 18 months due to COVID-19!
Pictures and updates to follow, but a massive thanks to all those who have supported her on this journey and have supported Dan’s Fund to help Burn Survivors the support they need to recover from their often live changing injuries.
On Sunday 10th October 2021, we had 18 runners take part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise funds for Dan’s Fund For Burns. It was an early start but everyone was enthusiastic and ready having missed their chance to run in 2020 due to the pandemic. It was an amazing day with all runners completing the race with some good times & pb’s in the mix. Karima Harris ran for DFFB and WON the ladies event with a PB of 1.25. Big Congratulations to her! Karima and Dan’s Fund also had a big shoutout from DJ Sara Cox on BBC Radio2 on Monday evening. Well done to all our runners who have raised over £18k so far! Thank you so so much!
