Helping burns survivors live healthily, happily and empowered

Video by Jordan Williams

Where no burn survivor is alone

Dan’s Fund For Burns was created by Polly Brooks (Miller) in the aftermath of the 2002 Bali bombings.

Polly lost her husband in the bombings and, as the sole survivor of a party of ten, is a burns survivor herself. During this time, she saw first-hand just how devastating a burn can be, both physically and emotionally. She experienced personally how little aftercare and support there was for adult burn survivors in the UK and decided to do something about it.

Dan’s Fund For Burns is both a lasting tribute to Dan Miller and a way to bring burn survivors the emotional, financial and physical support they need.

  • 2005 - First donation of a Laser Doppler Machine, that could not be financed by the NHS, to one of the UK burn services. The machine is used to measure blood flow in a burn injury to determine depth and if surgery is required.

  • 2006 - Funded the salary of a Clinical Psychologist in the main London burn service for 3 years. This helped to demonstrate the vital importance and need for psychological support following a burn injury. Subsequently, NHS services rolled out psychological care to burn injured patients nationwide. Dr Lisa Williams is still in her post 15 years on.
