Mount Snowdon Climb

Ian Easton from Coconut Marketing had an idea…

When one of our volunteer burns peer support befriender, Ian Easton, reached out to us and told us of his plan to climb Mount Snowdon this June to raise money for Dan’s Fund, Jennifer and I were so inspired that we immediately signed up to join in and help raise money for the charity so close to our hearts.

Dan’s Fund For Burns has grown beyond recognition and far beyond whatever anyone believed possible and is such a pillar of support for the burns community, through emotional and financial support for burn survivors and their families and the NHS burns professionals, centres, units and facilities.

This of course comes at a cost.. and we need to increase our fundraising to meet the ever increasing demands on the charity.. so what better way than for the two “old” ladies behind the charity taking on this trek.. Polly pushing her slightly broken and battered burned body up the hill, whilst Jennifer flies up behind.. ready to give her a push or two when needed! We will also be on hand to help Ian by slowing the pace, as Ian struggles with his breathing after his inhalation burns.

We are a team.. sometimes we bicker like we are married.. but somehow together we manage to do an enormous amount of good with Dan’s Fund For Burns. Jennifer works tirelessly as a non burn survivor to help those that have suffered injuries. With her husband, Greg, our Medical Trustee and former Clinical Burns lead at Chelsea & Westminster by her side, she probably understands more about burns than anyone, other than someone who has been burned themselves! A formidable team.

So on Friday 20th June we shall all take on the climb up and down the Miners Track & Pyg route of Yr Wyddffa (Mount Snowdon) and look forward to encouraging Ian to belt out Everybody want’s to rule the world once we reach the summit. Once back down (my knees will not like the decent) even more scarily, we will then attempt the 5.5hr drive home to be back in time for the weekend with the family – for me, my Mums birthday, Rosemary.. another long time faithful Trustee of the charity and of course the steel and strength behind my grit and determination!
