We made it!

On Friday 20th June, Ian Easton, a burn survivor with just 20% airways left after an explosion in his work shop caused damage to his lungs climbed up and down the Miners Track & Pyg route of Yr Wyddffa (Mount Snowdon) with Jennifer, Polly and a group of his colleagues from Coconut Marketing.

It was roasting hot and potentially one of the hottest days this year when we took on the climb and instead of worrying about hyperthermia we started worrying about heat stroke… so armed with factor 50 for our burns, umbrellas for shade rather than rain and the lightest tops we could find, we begin the long four hour climb uphill to the top of Mount Snowdon.  Training helped us and although the paths were steep there were large rock steps to navigate.

At certain times it felt like we might never reach the top.. but finally we saw the summit and it was with a definite relief that we got our photos at the top and were able to sing “Everybody wants to rule the world” by Tears for Fears, fulfilling Ian’s dream.

The walk down was stunning, if a little sore on the knees but with sticks in hand and the relief of being on the downward slope, we made sure to enjoy the stunning scenery so we could take lots of pictures to thank everyone for their generous donations.  Between us all we raised just shy of £10,000 (including gift aid) for Dan’s Fund For Burns.

Thanks to all Ian’s colleagues for making it work.. Paul, Mark, Ben, Adam, Lyndsey, Beth, Emily and Steph – a fantastic team effort.
