“Since my burns occurred in 2018, I have been introduced to what is an incredibly supportive, welcoming and open burns community.”
“My burns don’t dominate my life any more, they’re something that happened to me but they aren’t the focus of my life.”
Congratulations to Sylvia Macgregor and her sister, Shelia, on swimming 5km at the Lake Windemere Open Water 5km yesterday, Sunday 13th June, finishing in 1:46 and 2:30 mins respectively. Sylvia is a burn survivor from an early age and her sister is a Firefighter! Dan’s Fund has been lucky enough to be able to support Sylvia in her journey to launching Love Disfigure, her body positivity movement group and helped her personally. The sisters wanted to give back to charities close to their hearts.
Well done to the ladies and for raising nearly £1,000 for Dan’s Fund and the Firefighters Charity. Thank you Sylvia and Sheila for all your hard work and effort!! 🏊
Wow what a gorgeous day we had on the Queen’s 95th Birthday as Jennifer, her daughter, Jordan and I headed to the Bali Memorial just outside of Clives Steps by Churchill’s War Rooms opposite St James’s Park. We were there to film the welcome video for the new website and were blessed with a chilly but sunny day. I think people were quite curious to see a lady with her scarring out being filmed at the Memorial … maybe they thought I was a super model?!! 🙂
It’s a busy week as we juggle the kids being off and working hard on the new website, requests coming in from burn survivors in need and larger projects needing assessment and Trustee approval… we love a bit of juggling and always good when we are able to get the sign off from the Trustees and deliver the good news. Got to admit I could do with more hours in the day but somehow we always get there in the end!
Today has been brilliant – we were able to publish the amazing video done by OpenBionics about Leom’s fitting of his hero arm at the end of March… comments so far coming in have been so positive. How cool is it that we can help in this way, thanks to our fundraising and supporters. Ever grateful.
